Frequently Asked Questions
What is online therapy?
Online therapy is the name for a way therapy can be conducted between a therapist and a client. Services are not provided face-to-face as in a traditional clinic setting. Instead, clients interact with a qualified Occupational Therapist and/or Speech & Language Therapist through an online connection from the convenience of their own home or school setting.
Is online therapy right for my child?
Online therapy is a great option for those who live in rural areas and do not have access to Occupational Therapy and/or Speech & Language Therapy close by. It is also a great option for individuals or families that juggle many priorities and would benefit from attending sessions from the comfort of their own home or school. We understand that long waiting lists for therapy can be frustrating, and this offers an additional option for parents and schools to access therapy for their child/pupil. We know, however, that it isn’t a great fit for everyone. That’s why we offer a free consultation before you commit to purchasing a package.
What do online therapy sessions cost?
Our rates are generally lower than face to face therapy as we do not have any travel or clinic costs. Please contact us about our rates.
Fees for schools are the same as individual fees, but if your school has 3 or more pupils that undertake regular therapy sessions, we may be able to offer discounts. Depending on technology, it may be possible to set up an online group with 2-3 students, which would reduce costs further.
What technology do I need for online therapy?
The following equipment is required to participate in online therapy:
- a computer with a built-in or external webcam and microphone
- high-speed internet connection
- an email account
Our therapists recommend the following to help you get the most out of your sessions:
- headphones
- good lighting
- a quiet environment with limited background noise
How long will online therapy take?
The rate of progress is always dependent on the goals being addressed, consistent attendance at appointments, and follow-through with family or school. Your therapist will be able to provide further insight as to their expectations for progress and change.
Why should I choose online therapy?
Technology is a magnificent tool. It offers convenience and can improve the quality of service to children and families. Online Therapy sessions can be recorded and shared with other family members, carers or school staff who can support your child in their therapy programme.
How do I sign up for online therapy?
1. Contact us and let us know you are interested in online therapy.
2. We will identify the best therapist for you based on your child's needs and your availability. We will then arrange your free 20 minute consultation.
3. After your consultation, we will contact you to discuss whether you would like to proceed with online therapy. If you decide to continue, we will book an online consultation and you will receive an email with instructions on how to pay for your sessions.
